You would have to be a dyed in the wool Luddite to deny the benefits to our lives that technology has brought us, and more specifically to deny the benefits of having a satellite navigation system in your car. Global positioning systems technology is used in car navigation to enable the driver to know where precisely he is at any given time, and to be guided by a combination of voice instructions and dashboard map display to wherever he wants to go. As a driver you have to glance at the screen occasionally, but surely that must be less dangerous by far than having to struggle to read a map on your lap whilst driving along?
The safety benefits of GPS are undeniable. You have a voice over that helps you comprehend what's on the screen, and this is even sufficient information by itself most of the time.
If you're the type of person with little innate sense of direction then using a sat nav is a no brainer, especially when you are travelling to places you have never been to before or areas that you don't know particularly well. In this day and age you need your faculties tuned to what's happening on the road because hazards can arise without warning, and you don't want to be having to slow down suddenly in front of dense traffic in order to try to read road signs and road names when you’re looking for an address.
