Family Support Services
This service in common with all the other work undertaken by the CCRS exists to help children reach their potential. Many families suffer from a host of problems including:
- Family break-up
- Poverty
- Bereavement
- Poor parent/child relationship
- Bullying
- Mental or physical health problems
- Domestic violence
These difficulties can have a major impact on a child’s development. The Family Support Team works with the family to overcome these difficulties and to function in a way that will enhance the child’s physical, emotional and spiritual development.
Social work services for families
We provide:
- Parenting support – we can assist families in their own homes, offer parental support and advocate for them in their dealings with other agencies. We can give guidance to parents to help them meet the needs of their children.
- Bereavement and loss – we can help children come to terms with a family tragedy, separation or loss.
- Webster Stratton Parenting – we offer this well researched tried and proven parenting programme as a course for parents experiencing difficulties in caring for their children.
Social work services for schools
Individual work with children and young people e.g spending time with children who are at risk of being excluded from school to give them the time and space to work through their problems.
Advice and guidance to teachers who can ask the Society for help with particular children who are causing concern.
Services to primary schools in the Diocese offering support to parents and, if needed, working directly with the child.
Schools counselling service: offering secondary schools a dedicated Social Worker to provide counselling to all their pupils.
Case study
Natalie is a 14 year old girl who was referred due to anger management issues. She lives with her mother and brother and has no contact with her birth father, which she finds difficult. Her poor self image and low self esteem, combined with her anger, were causing her to be excluded from school on a regular basis. Natalie met with a Social Worker for 6 weeks, who discovered her passion for football. This has given Natalie an outlet for her energy and a way to build confidence in herself. Her behaviour and attendance at school have improved and CCRS were able to get funding for a performing arts summer school to further develop Natalie's talents.
