Nineteen years ago our Bolton site was set up to provide accommodation and support to homeless young mothers and their babies. It has gone through several changes since then and is now part of the CCRS Supported Accommodation service.

However, Jean Hatzar has been there from the beginning offering invaluable service, care and assistance over the years to hundreds of residents. Jean used to lead the project until she took up the post of part-time Deputy four years ago. She retired in February and to celebrate her achievements and show their gratitude for her commitment and hard work, over 70 colleagues, past residents, friends and staff gathered to wish her well.

Jean, the mother of two and grandmother of four, was presented with a bouquet of flowers, a photo album, shopping vouchers and a garden swing, at the party held at the project base in Bolton. Rescue Society Officer-in-Charge, Judith Dudgeon, said: “Her work was invaluable, she was instrumental in building the good reputation of the project and in changing many women’s lives.”

It was an emotional evening. Jean’s contribution to the work of the Society cannot be overestimated and perhaps the most eloquent testimony came from past residents, some with their grown up children, who came to tell Jean how important her support had been to them during the most difficult times of their lives.
