The Catholic Children's Rescue Society
The Catholic Children’s Rescue Society (CCRS) is a registered charity and is one of the longest established social welfare organisations in the North West. Our services extend across all sections of the community working with children and families of all faiths and none.
The society combines the skills of professional social work staff with the commitment of a faith based organisation dedicated to helping children, young people and families across the Diocese of Salford (see map) achieve the best quality of life possible.
Our head office is based in Didsbury, South Manchester with additional sites in Blackburn, Bolton, Central Manchester and Stockport. We have charity shops located in Chorlton and Harpurhey.
So, who can we help?
We help children such as Lily (aged 3) who was removed from her family following serious concerns about neglect. At the time of her removal Lily was severely malnourished, unable to talk, her milk teeth were decayed and she was anaemic because of chronic lice infestation. She was timid, fretful and scared of her own shadow. Lily was placed with CCRS foster carers who were able to give her the care, nurturing and attention she needed as well as keeping all the extra medical appointment that were required to restore her to health. Physically she made a huge improvement in a few weeks and then gradually as the time passed she became more confident emotionally, began talking and taking a curious interest in the world. The foster carers were supported by CCRS who were able to provide the advice, information and guidance they needed while plans were made for Lily’s long term future.
We help young women like Ellie who became pregnant when she was 15 years old and had to leave home when the birth drew near. She knew nothing about being a mother and felt overwhelmed by her situation. Her health visitor referred her to our supported accommodation unit in Bolton where she lived for a year, receiving the support, encouragement and help she needed to live independently with her baby daughter Jade.
These are just two children among many who have been helped by the Society over the decades.
