Our history

Bishop Herbert Vaughan CCRS was founded in 1886 by Bishop Vaughan in response to the poverty and deprivation experienced by children at the time of the Industrial Revolution in the urban communities and the mill towns around Greater Manchester and South Lancashire. Over one century ago the role of the CCRS was one of ‘rescuing’ children from the streets and institutions and particularly those in danger of losing their Roman Catholic faith.

The role of CCRS has changed over the decades but its ethos remains the same – the needs and rights of the child are central to all decision making. We provide services to children and families from all faiths and none and from all cultural backgrounds within the Diocese of Salford.
